Reunion dinners

Highlight of that day: Brother's little girl, 20 mths old. Little one is definitely more adorable than the adults

This year’s reunion dinner on my side was a bit on the drama side. Mother, who hasn’t had any treat from brother for a long time, wanted her children to hold the reunion dinner in a restaurant instead of her cooking. Brother, invited his mother-in-law’s clan(sons, daughters..whatsoever..)& wanted me to split his side of the bills too. Mother defended me, brother angry & so he didn’t come for the actual dinner. 2 days ago we held the family lunch with mother cooking & this yr, for the 1st, I totally ignored my brother, only investing the attention on his little girl & his wife. Short & long end of it is – I really don’t like my family a lot. My brother, his wife, my mom.. their politics, schemes..etc..I’m really my daddy’s girl, just like him – we don’t play games.

Hubby’s side was much more heartwarming & less calculative/scheming. We went over to Malaysia to have the dinner with his relatives & I was seated opposite end of the table to the handsome dude , David, whom I met last year in grandma’s funeral. Poor David was scolded by his mom when Alvin offered to help David top up his bowl of rice (the area was pretty cramped). Alvin, his sister & I were all baffled as we didn’t really think it was that much of a big deal. David’s more like a peer than a junior. Anyway, we’re all amazed how respectful David was, he didn’t pull a long black face after being scolded & went along his meal as per normal. I really should learn from this guy for I certainly don’t take well to any forms of lecturing/scoldings – be it good or bad.

Haha, soon, my turn to be scolded. After the meal, I helped with the washing & removed my ring as it was loose. Halfway through, David’s mom appeared & took over so I went joining the rest in the living room, forgetting all about my ring till later. Panicked, I went looking for it, started asking around & was scolded. Luckily one of the aunts who found the ring returned it to Alvin so the scolding didn’t last very long. Haha. No, I didn’t pull a long black face after the scolding. Most probably I’m just more relieved with the lost & found item to be bothered by the nagging.

The four days of rest was great but have to get back to work. 3 days of hectic schedules with 2 days of slacker ones for coming 2 weeks due to make up lessons for some of my students who missed lessons during the long weekend. Gonna grit my teeth & plough through it! Then 2 weeks later, renovations for our new flat will start. Counting down to all the better days!

Another funny story in Malaysia involving this drawing but shall just note it in my memory. Have a great year everyone!
